I continue to meet regularly with Ilan, a curious young Jewish man who enjoys discussing a wide range of topics, including spiritual questions. This time we met at one of our outreach events in the city and had another meaningful conversation. One of the topics we explored was love for others. Ilan asked an insightful question: “Should a person love themselves before they can truly love others?” I shared that the Bible teaches us to love our neighbour as ourselves. This is not a call to selfishness or egoism. Rather, it recognizes that we cannot genuinely love others if we do not understand our own value and the love God has for us. The same love that God has shown us through His Son is the love we are called to extend to those around us. I am grateful for these ongoing conversations and pray that God will continue to open Ilan’s heart. Please pray that as we explore more spiritual questions together, he will draw closer and closer to the hope and salvation found in the Messiah.
