Recently, I met Rachel,* an Israeli woman, and we quickly found ourselves in a thoughtful conversation about our different backgrounds and what it means to be Jewish in Australia. As we talked, she honestly asked me to explain what it means to be a Messianic Jew. She couldn’t see how believing in Jesus could be compatible with remaining Jewish. I was grateful for the openness of the moment. I shared some of my parents’ story and explained that if the prophecies in the Hebrew Scriptures point to Yeshua, then trusting in him is not a departure from Judaism, but a fulfillment of it. She listened carefully and asked sincere questions. By the end of our time together, we exchanged numbers and made plans to meet again. Please pray that our next conversation would go deeper and that God would continue drawing her to Himself.
